FAQs
1. What questions should a bride ask when scouting for a make-up artist?
The bride should ask for samples of her previous work, her training background, the rates for the trial and wedding package, the types/brands of products to be used and her philosophy about how a bride should look on her wedding day.
2. How much is the average cost of hair and makeup for the bride?
Average cost of hair and make-up for the bride is 16,000.00 including the trial hair and make-up and the retouching services.
3. What are the suitable hair & make-up looks for the bride?
The most of-the-moment bridal hairstyle trends are more romantic than ever -- think supersized braids and tousled waves. Volumized or “bumped up” hairstyles will also be big. Top-knot buns will be popular for those who want to veer away from the usual chignon. The use of one-of-a-kind headpieces or accessories will still be seen, like feathered flowers, pearl headbands, lace, crystals and ribbons.
For the make-up, colorful eyeshadows paired with sheer lipgloss will be seen. For brides who want to accentuate their lips, bright colors will be perfect. Eyeshadow shades of pink, lavender, peach, bronze and gold still work best. The use of false lashes is a must to make her eyes really stand out in photos. The bride's skin tone, personality, wedding theme and what she is comfortable with will also be taken into consideration.
Her nails will also be a big part of her overall look. Gel manicures are a must! Metallic polish looks sophisticated. For those who want to go bold, a bright coral red will be perfect. But you can never go wrong with the classic long nails in a glossy nude shade or French manicure.
4. Why is bridal hair and makeup more expensive than the usual styling that women have when they attend parties?
Bridal make-up artists usually charge a higher fee because I believe that they may be more talented, since they specialize in bridal make-up and often work on photography shoots.
Another reason is that they usually reserve their whole day for only one wedding/event. Travel expenses should also be taken in consideration. They also have to pay for their assistants' fee if they have.
5. Does doing bridal makeup entail the use of special products that go the distance?
Yes, we have to make sure that the products used are long-lasting, waterproof and sweat-resistant so that it would require very minimal touch-ups and to make sure that they will look their best until the end of the event.
6. How should a woman prepare for her wedding day in terms of taking care of her skin and hair?
I would suggest sticking out to a basic skin care regimen which is cleansing, toning, moisturizing, putting on face and body sunblock and dabbing eye cream to lighten dark circles and reduce fine lines around the undereye area.
She can indulge in spa treatments like body massage and body scrub a week before the event to relax the muscles and make the skin glow. For a dermatologist procedure, it is best to book the appointment at least three weeks before the event (you never know how your skin will react).
For the hair, do not try anything drastic. It is better if she will try to grow her hair long so she will be able to try a multitude of hairstyles. She could also get a hair spa treatment a week before the wedding to smoothen out hair cuticles and to make the hair shinier. Of course working out, having a balanced diet, drinking more water and getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep will help a lot!
